The Blessing of the New Year

The new year offers an altar for the unknown, the unexpected, and for new possibilities we have not considered. Henri Frederic Amiel perhaps expresses bes the ways that are needed to open to that which we have yet to experience,

"Let mystery have its place in you;
       ...leave a little fallow corner
                     in your heart
                ready for any seed
                the wind may bring. 
       And reserve a nook of shadow
                for the passing bird;
                keep a place
                for the unexpected guest
       an altar for the unknown."

Practices

• Each day, consciously create a place in you where the mystery and the unknown can reside.

• Notice which new seeds the winds have brought you and what is emerging both internally and externally for you.

• When we open to the unknown without fear, we give in to grace. What states of grace or natural flow are you experiencing so far? Keep a place for the unexpected guest or experience that you may encounter today.
